Stars on the ‘just out’ shelves

On stands now: The latest from Turkish novelist and Nobel prize winner Orhan Pamuk is ‘Essays and a Story’.

CHENNAI: Stars of the silver screen are now baring all at a bookshop near you. Three biographies of desi film stars have reached the ‘just out’ shelves in recent weeks.

‘Autobiography of an Actor’ tells the tale of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan. The book, published by a trust run by the family in his name, has been compiled and edited by T.S. Narayanaswamy.

Dev Anand’s ‘Romancing with Life’ just had a glitzy release in the city and has reached all leading bookstores. Sometime ago, the honours were done for actor and dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali’s biography, ‘Bonding’. Jyothi Sabharwal had collaborated with the star to write the book.

Coming back to earth, ‘Trees and Tree Tales’ by K.N. Rao is a handy introduction to Indian vegetation. On the history of the sub-continent there is ‘The Fall of the Mughal Empire’ by Jadunath Sarkar.

‘Come, Be My Light’ is a compilation of the ‘private writings of the saint of Calcutta’ - Mother Theresa.

Those following the works of Orhan Pamuk, Turkish writer and Nobel prize winner, could get to learn more about the author’s political leanings in his ‘Essays and a Story.’

New in fiction

New titles in fiction include John Grisham’s ‘Playing for Pizza’, Ken Follett’s ‘World without End’ and Robin Cook’s ‘Critical’.

Fans of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull may enjoy the recent production of his creator, Richard Bach, in ‘Messiah’s Handbook – Reminders for the Advanced Soul’.

Other titles to watch out for include Booker nominee ‘Gifted’ by Nikita Lalwani, which tells the story of an immigrant child prodigy.
