Boorish and boring

This refers to the article “Boorish and boring” (Oct. 4). Santhakumaran Sreesanth does come across as an immature person. If he is confident of himself, what is the need for him to resort to antics on the cricket field?

He should display aggression in his bowling, not in clenched fists, scowling face and words.

Let him learn from the calm, suave Viswanathan Anand who never loses his cool but vanquishes his opponents with his calculated intelligent moves. Let Sreesanth not make his countrymen hang their heads in shame over his behaviour.

Everyone is entitled to his or her views but I am particularly disappointed with the comments on the aggressive young man. Indian cricket has evolved from the namby-pamby bunch of the 1960s and 1970s to a highly motivated pack today. It was fighting spirit and aggression that saw our young team being crowned champs of the recently concluded T20 tournament.

To put it bluntly, fire has to be met with fire.

Everyone will agree that it was the Australians who started the cockamamie exercise of sledging on the field. It was therefore quite refreshing to see Sreesanth take on the Aussies in our own backyard. If the goras do not like what they see, they have themselves to blame. Let us support our boys and stop describing their behaviour as boorish. If such behaviour can help us win matches in these very competitive times, why discourage it?
