NEW DELHI: As expected, World champion Viswanathan Anand breached the magic mark of 2800 rating points for the second time in his career after adding nine points from his successful outing in the World chess championship that concluded in Mexico City on Saturday. Anand, who took over as the World’s top-ranked player in April this year, raised his rating from 2792 to 2801 and opened a 14-point lead over the second-placed Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine, in the list released by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) on Monday. This is the second time that Anand has crossed the 2800-mark. The standings: World’s top 10: 1. V. Anand (Ind, 2801), 2. V. Ivanchuk (Ukr, 2787), 3. V. Kramnik (Rus, 2785), 4. V.
