NEW DELHI: Christopher Marquis knocked out former National champion Nitten Kirrtane 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the men’s first round of the DSCL National tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Monday. The 16-year-old Marquis showed firepower and a strong will in working his way past the guiles of the 33-year-old Nitten, who himself fought admirably despite being tired following five rounds in the qualifying event. Marquis, who had also come through the qualifying event, struggled in the first set but bounced back from 3-5 in the second set to enact a remarkable recovery. From 3-4 down in the decider, Marquis won three games on the trot for a memorable win.
