Major portion of land in Hyderabad (Urban), Ranga Reddy districts Regularisation of assigned land to be free of cost for the poor HYDERABAD: The Government has specified that only an extent of 70 acres of land was yet to be recovered out of the various categories of assigned lands distributed to the poor but found in possession of others. District Collectors have been asked to recover this land at any cost in three to four days. Announcing this to the media here on Monday after discussions with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on land-related issues, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao said a major portion of the land was located in Hyderabad (Urban) and Ranga Reddy districts. Instructions were issued to use this land for Indiramma housing programme or regularise it in the name of occupants if used for housing purpose. Free regularisationThe regularisation would be made free of cost for the poor and with payment in the case of middle classes. If the land was found in the possession of rich persons, it would be recovered. The Government would issue the order modifying the existing laws, if any, to facilitate the regularisation but after showing the draft to the High Court. This was to avoid litigation. Mr. Prasada Rao said all formalities had been completed to go ahead with the proposed Phase IV of the mass land distribution to the poor on November 1. Nearly 1.25 lakh acres of land, which was identified as free from problems, would be distributed this time. As for the Supreme Court directive, no water body would be touched for distribution. Also, over 3 lakh acres of agricultural land which was assigned to the poor earlier but taken back for non-payment of the yearly premium, would be handed over to them under this phase. The rule requiring them to pay premium had been abolished, he added.
