Applications of techniques of relaxation discussed

Shift in Allopathy from intervention

to prevention

CHENNAI: There is an increasing recognition that the holistic concept of wellness is a synthesis of ancient traditions and modern technology, N. Murali, managing director of The Hindu said here on Sunday.

Releasing the souvenir of Infinite Dimension Charitable Trust, he praised its chairman Arun Kumar for his efforts to work for both the rich and the poor. “He is a well-rounded healer, a multidimensional person who has been part of a movement that is inclusive. There is a need for this in a fast-paced world,” Mr. Murali said.

Even Allopathy had recognised the need for other forms, moving from intervention to prevention and sickness to wellness, that could prove beneficial at a time when the burden due to cardiovascular diseases was mind-boggling, he said.

“His techniques are relevant to management, particularly in the high-pressure spheres such as business and information technology. Even in management, such techniques of relaxation bring about innovation and creativity,” Mr. Murali said.

Earlier, Mr. Kumar held a relaxation session where he taught the audience pranayama and ‘lagu executive yoga nidra’.

Levels of existence

K.P. Misra, senior consultant cardiologist and director of Medical Education at Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneshwar said synergy was harmonising and developing the various levels of existence. He cited various Sanskrit slokas and the Gita to explain the various levels of existence. Yoga and exercises were beneficial and helped the body to optimise the benefits these techniques, he said.

Pradeep Nevata, chief executive officer of Nine Stars, said he was impressed with the techniques adopted by Mr. Kumar and had even encouraged his colleagues to try it.

A. Kalanidhi, former Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, spoke on synergising the body, mind and soul. Seetha Muthiah, chairperson, programme organising committee, and J. Srinivasan, group director of TTK group of companies participated.
