CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State junior (u-19) and sub-junior (u-15) triathlon championship will be held at the Velachery aquatic complex and its surrounding area on September 30. The swimming event will be held at the aquatic complex and the cycling and running phases will be completed on a 2.5 km stretch along Raj Bhavan signal-Sardar Patel Road-Anna Salai and MRC Roads. The city police has made arrangements to keep traffic off on this stretch during the competition, said N. Ramachandran, founder of the Tamil Nadu Triathlon Association and a senior Vice President, Indian Triathlon Federation, while thanking the Police Department at a press meet on Friday. As per the format, the juniors will have to complete 750m of swimming, 20 km of cycling and 5km of road running while for sub-juniors it will be 500m , 6 km and 2 km respectively. Mr. Ramachandran said elaborate arrangements have been made for this championship. Over 100 triathletes would be taking part. The medal winners would be selected for a special camp to be conducted by the ITF for representing the State in the junior/subjunior national slated tentatively to be held in Rajasthan. Apart from the medals, a prize money of Rs. one lakh will be distributed to the winners.
