KSRTC to scrap 104 buses: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will scrap 104 buses found unfit for services from its 3,912-strong fleet.

As many as 664 buses in various KSRTC depots cannot be deployed for operating services, Minister for Transport Mathew T. Thomas said.

Of this, the highest number of 191 buses was in the depots in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kollam, 82, Pathanamthitta, 31, Alappuzha, 56, Kottayam, 52, Idukki, 27, Ernakulam, 61, Kozhikode, 28, Palakkad, 18, Thrissur, 48, Malappuram, 17, Kozhikode, 28, Wayanad, 28, Kannur, 13, and Kasaragod, 12.Of the 3,912 buses in the fleet, the maximum of 1,242 buses were attached to the depots in Thiruvananthapuram district.It had 418 buses in Kollam, 362 in Alappuzha, 310 in Ernakulam, 214 in Thrissur and 325 in Kottayam.

The least number of 83 buses was in Kasaragod district. In Kannur, the corporation had 158 buses, Wayanad, 148, Kozhikode, 141, Malappuram, 92 and Idukki, 120.

Mechanical staff

Mr.Thomas said the corporation had provided necessary mechanical staff in all depots to take care of the maintenance works of the buses. Necessary staff had also been made available in all depots to clean the buses.
