Coimbatore: Top seed Sanjana M. Kumar of Tamil Nadu, as expected, clinched a double in the CDTA-AITA Talent Series tennis tournament at the CDTA Tennis Centre here on Friday. The 13-year-old Sanjana, a ninth standard student of Vidya Niketan (Coimbatore), played a strong baseline game to demolish both S. Swetha (6-1, 6-1) and Dhruthi Venugopal (6-1, 6-0) of Tamil Nadu for the under-14 and 16 titles respectively. It was honours even in the boys’ section with top seed Kaushal Mehta of Maharashtra taking the u-14 title and Jaisal Kohli Mariwala (Maharashtra) the u-16 crown. Kaushal was forced to sweat by second seed Monish Rajer of Tamil Nadu in the u-14 final. The former, who started cautiously, stepped up the gas midway through to give the Maharashtra player a run for his money. But, the latter played cool and calculated when it mattered the most to trounce Monish 6-3, 7-5 for the title. Kaushal, however, was not at his belligerent best in the u-16 final. After losing the opening set 2-6, he bounced back nicely to take the second 6-1. At this juncture, Kohli rallied strongly at the net to wrap up the set and title 6-2. The results (all finals): Boys: U-14: Kaushal Mehta (Mah) bt Monish Rajer (TN) 6-3, 7-5. U-16: Jaisal Kohli Mariwala (Mah) bt Kaushal Mehta 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Doubles: Ganga Singh/ Pyara Singh bt R. Harish/ Venkatesh Krishna 6-1, 6-3. Girls: U-14: Sanjana M. Kumar (TN) bt S. Swetha (TN) 6-1, 6-1. U-16: Sanjana bt Dhruthi Venugopal (TN) 6-1, 6-0. — Sports Reporter
