Perambalur a forerunner: Minister

Gift: Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology A. Raja handing over land patta to a beneficiary in Ariyalur on Friday.

ARIYALUR: Perambalur district ranks first in the State in the implementation of the ‘free two-acre land’ scheme, benefiting a large number of landless agricultural labourers, the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja said.

Speaking at a function to mark the fifth phase of distribution of free land at Ariyalur on Friday, Mr. Raja said that the district was a forerunner in the implementation of this programme.

In this phase, 274 persons got free land to a total extent of 425.10 acres.

Mr. Raja said that steps were being taken to start a government engineering college to cater to the higher educational needs of the students of the district.

District Collector Anil Meshram presided over the function.
