Madkekar loses

NEW DELHI: The fifth-seeded Aditya Madkekar could not cross the second round in the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at Bali, Indonesia, on Thursday. Elbert Sie of Indonesia beat Madkekar 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at Nottingham, Britain, Tara Iyer failed in first hurdle in both the singles and doubles.

Anna Smith of Britain beat Tara 7-5, 6-4 while the Italians Lisa Sabino and Alice Balducci recorded a thrilling 6-4, 6-7(2), 10-8 victory over Tara and her Ukrainian partner Irina Buryachok.
