Rajnath, Naidu to attend funeral

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has mourned the former Bharatiya Janata Party president Jana Krishnamurthy, who died in Chennai on Tuesday.

In a condolence message, Mr. Vajpayee described him as an able leader and dedicated worker who laid the foundation for the Jana Sangh in the south way back in the 1960s.

At a hurriedly called office-bearers’ meeting here, the BJP condoled his death. BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu left for Chennai, where they will attend the funeral on Wednesday.

Party leaders here recalled the integrity and dedication in “Janaji.” Jana Krishnamurthy had been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1940 and helped to spread the RSS and later Jana Sangh ideology in Tamil Nadu and other southern States.

He gave up his law practice in Madurai to devote full time to the RSS and its political arm, the Jana Sangh which later emerged as the BJP.
