Participants divided into three groups Event organised by the Rotary Club
For a cause: Participants passing through Tata square in Berhampur on Sunday. BERHAMPUR: A half marathon on the theme of ‘Save the Girl Child’ was organised in the city on Sunday by the Rotary Club. Hundreds of participants in different age groups turned up despite inclement weather to participate in it. The marathon was flagged off at the Khallikote College Stadium by the Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dayal Gangawar. The runners passed through major squares in the city and reached Gopalpur Sea Resort from where they turned back to the end point of the marathon at Premnagar. The runners were categorised in three groups. The major group included serious participants and amateurs. A special group comprised veteran athletes followed by a special group of women trying their hand at long distance running. Sudarsan Behera was the winner of this half marathon and Sheik Rahim was the runner-up. Ajay Gouda secured third position. They were awarded at a special function organised at the Rotary Conference Hall.
