ACCET clinches title

Karaikudi: Host Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology (Karaikudi) won the title for the fourth successive year defeating PSNA College of Engineering (Dindigul) 25-29, 29-23, 29-25 in the final of the Anna University Zone IX inter-engineering colleges ball badminton tournament on Saturday.

Other results: Third place: Thiagarajar CE (Madurai) bt RVS EC (Dindigul) 29-15, 29-22. Semifinals: ACCET bt TCE 29-27, 29-24; PSNA EC bt RVS EC 29-10, 28-29, 29-18.

Francis Xavier CE wins

At Nazareth, Francis Xavier College of Engineering beat National Engineering College (Maruthpuram) 29-17, 29-14 for the title in the Anna University Zone X inter-engineering ball badminton tournament.

Other results: Third place: PSR EC (Sivakasi) bt Mepco Schlenk EC (Sivakasi) 29-2, 29-14.

Shanthaseelan shines

At Madurai, an unbeaten 62 by Shanthaseelan helped S. Vellaichamy Nadar College defeat Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University by 54 runs in the Laagans 2007 southern districts inter-collegiate cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores:

SVN College 176 for six in 18 overs (Shanthaseelan 62 not out) bt ICFAI University 122 in 18 overs; MKU College 121 for four in 15 overs lost to VHNSN College (Virudhunagar) 124 for two in 13 overs (Karthik 47, Murugadas 39 not out); Thiagarajar School of Management 127 for eight in 18 overs lost to Sourashtra College ‘B’ 128 for six in 17 overs (Sasi 39, Rabinadrarah three for 14).

Easy for Don Bosco FC

Don Basco Football Club registered an emphatic 6-0 victory over Nehru Football Club in the Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy on Saturday.

Nagendran (three), Rajendran, Muthukrishnan and James scored.

Sethu IT advances

Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) and Thiagarajar College of Engineering from Pool ‘A’ and Sourashtra College and SVN College from Pool ‘B’ qualified for the semifinals in the district-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for the YMCA Trophy here on Saturday.

The results (league): Pool ‘A’: SIT bt Thiagarajar CE 25-11, 25-11; SIT bt American College 25-21, 25-21; TCE bt American 25-23, 25-15. Pool ‘B’: Sourashtra College bt S. Vellaichamy Nadar College 25-22, 25-19; Sourashtra bt KLN CE 25-11, 25-10; SVN College bt KLN CE 25-11, 25-16.

Basketball tournament
