Three ‘insurgents’ gunned down

IMPHAL: Police commandos of Imphal West district and personnel of the 16 Assam Rifles and 24 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry gunned down three suspected insurgents of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in an encounter at Taothong in Imphal West district on Saturday morning.

Police reports said two AK 47 rifles and 28 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Roadblocks were set up on receipt of information that some militants might be travelling in those areas.

When a speeding car was asked to halt, the insurgents reportedly opened fire. The occupants were killed when the security forces returned fire.
