THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cyclists from Thiruvananthapuram dominated the proceedings on the opening day of the 55th State track cycling championship at the LNCPE Velodrome here on Friday. The host won seven out of the nine races that was held on the day which saw records remaining under cover. Alappuzha’s Abhilash Mohan, who won the gold in men’s 4km individual pursuit, and his teammate U. Vishu, who won the gold in the boys’ under-13 time trial, were the cyclists who broke the hegemony of the host on the first day. The results: Men: 4km individual pursuit: 1. Abhilash Mohan (Alp), 2. Gopal, who is set to become Kerala’s first Grandmaster, has said he is sorry if he has hurt the Chess Association of Kerala (CAK) with his recent statements. In his email message, replying to the show cause notice dated September 14, to CAK, the copies of which have been made available to the media on Friday, Gopal said: “I have never said anything against CAK. I have utmost respect for the institution… “…After all these, you still feel I am at fault (sic), I am sorry if I have hurt your sentiments,” Gopal continued, before concluding that he would be able to send the signed copy of the letter only after his arrival from the Philippines, where he is playing in the Asian individual championship. In his statement, Gopal, however, has stuck to the charges he made against the CAK officials M.B. Muralidharan and O.T.
