Madurai: Hariharan’s hat-trick and a goal each by Murugan and Kumar helped Saraswathy Narayanan College (SNC) trounce Madura College 5-0 and win the title in the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘B’ zone inter-collegiate football tournament here on Friday. The results (all finals): At Madurai: ‘A’ zone: MSS Wakfboard College 1 (Antony) bt American College 0; ‘B’ zone: Arulanandar College (Karumathur) 1 (Charles) bt GTN Arts College (Dindigul) 0. At Virudhunagar: ‘D’ zone: Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College (Sivakasi) 2 (Balaji, Machael Doss) bt PKN Arts College (Thirumangalam) 0. Annamalai triumphsAnnamalai University (Chidambaram) lifted the Vellaichamy Nadar memorial Trophy in the State-level inter-collegiate women’s handball tournament, organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Sattur and Virudhunagar District Handball Association, at Sattur recently. Six teams were divided into two pools in the league phase. Annamalai and Dr. MGR College (Chennai) from pool ‘A’ and Nirmala School (Madurai) and Avinasilingam University (Coimbatore) from pool ‘B’ qualified for the semifinals. In the semifinals, Annamalai beat Avinasilingam 8-2 and Dr. MGR College beat Nirmala School (Madurai) 12-7. The final could not be played due to rain and Annamalai, by virtue of its better performance in the league phase and semifinals, was declared winner and Dr. MGR College the runner-up. Avinasilingam and Nirmala School were jointly placed third. Praveen wins title J. Praveen Anand (Jamal Mohammed) and N. Poomagal (D.G. GAC) won the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon titles respectively at the 26th Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate athletic meet in Tiruchi on Friday. The results (winners only): Men: 200m: P. Balasubramani (St. Joseph’s), 22.4s; 800m: S. Porpanaiyan (St. Joseph’s), 2:02.8s; 1500m: 1. S. Porpanaiyan, 4:18s; 10,000m: 1. C. Sivakumar (St. Joseph’s), 34:35s; 400m hurdles: A. Sundarapandi (H.H. Rajah’s), 58.8s. 4x100m relay: St. Joseph’s College, 44.8s; Decathlon: J. Praveen Anand (Jamal Mohammed), 4784 points; High jump: A.M. Abdul Khadhar (Jamal Mohammed), 1.85m; Triple jump: G. Anand Babu (Jamal Mohammed), 14.14m; Shot put: J. Praveen Anand, 11.63m. Women: 200m: A. Vijila (Kundavai Nachiar GAC), 26.8s; 1500m: P. Lakshmi (H.H. Rajah’s), 5:22s; 10,000m: P. Lakshmi, 47:21s; 400m hurdles: M. Revathy (D.G. GAC), 1:10.8s; 4x100m relay: H.H.
