IOCL easily gets the better of Army Green XI

BANGALORE: Indian Oil Corporation Limited easily got the better of Army Green XI 3-1 in the Synergy Super Division league hockey tournament here on Friday.

Jerome Kujur briefly put Army Green ahead scoring in the sixth minute. IOCL closed ranks close to the end of the first half and Inderjit Chaddha (31st) finally broke through the Army defence to score the first goal for his side.

Two minutes later, Diwakar Ram scored off a penalty stroke for IOCL to lead 2-1 at the break. Cheeyanna (59th) rounded off the tally for the winner.

In another match, Canara Bank beat Karnataka State Police 3-1. Four minutes before the interval, Ronald Kiran pushed home a penalty corner. John Verghese (49th) and Varun Chinnappa (64th) made it 3-0 before Chetan Kumar (65th) slotted home a penalty stroke for the State policemen.

SBMJC wins trophy

Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) won the champions trophy in the Birla Open sports meet held recently at BITS Pilani in Rajasthan.

According to a SBMJC press release, the college topped the swimming and athletics segments besides doing reasonably well in the other events. SBMJC’s Kaleb Oliver was also adjudged as the ‘Player of the tournament.’

Mundir posts win

Mundir Sherazi defeated L. Nagaraj 151-148, 143-150, 151-136 in a league match of the State-ranking billiards tournament at the KSBA Hall here on Friday.

Sudhindra Shinde’s 143 helped President’s XI declare at 405 for five against Bangalore City in a Safi Darashah Trophy tournament match that commenced at the RSI ground here on Friday. At close, Bangalore City was 77 for two in 28 overs.

President’s XI 405 for five decl. in 72 overs (Sudhindra Shinde 143, Devraj Patil 82, Amith Verma 78) vs. Bangalore City 77 for two in 28 overs.
