NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh, who had a memorable year in 2006, winning four titles across the world, has confirmed his participation in the Hero Honda Indian Open golf championship to be held at the Delhi Golf Club course from October 11 to 14. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Hero Honda Motors MD and CEO Pawan Munjal said that defending champion Jyoti Randhawa had also confirmed his participation in the $500,000 event. This is the 44th edition of the Indian Open and Hero Honda is sponsoring the event for the third year in succession. The prize money is up by $100,000 compared to last year and Mr. Munjal said that there could be further revision of the prize fund for the next edition. Prominent playersChina’s Liang Wenchong, leader of the Asian Tour Order of Merit for much of this year, and veteran Australian Peter Senior are among the prominent players who are expected to join the Open field on a course that is being made more challenging. The 2005 champion Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchand and 2004 winner Mardan Mamat of Singapore would be among the other top players in contention at the DGC. Randhawa had ended a two-year title drought with the victory in last year’s Indian Open.
