KARUR: Some private banks in the district are not extending education loan to students hailing from allotted wards and villages. If they continued to pursue the same line, the matter would be taken up with the Reserve Bank of India, bankers were told at the district-level review committee meeting held here on Thursday. Expedite disbursal of loans and credit under SGSY economic activity, revolving fund for women self-help groups and Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana, Collector T.N. Venkatesh told the bankers.
Participating at the district-level review meeting, he said that so far during the current financial year 26 loans were sanctioned under the SGSY economic activity scheme to the tune of Rs. 106.80 crore, 216 loans totalling Rs. 92.83 under PMRY. Disbursement should take place immediately to take the benefits of the schemes to the people.
However, he added that against the target of Rs. 201.16 crore for the first quarter, the banks granted Rs. 203.03 crore under priority sector for overall achievement of 101 per cent.
“Bridge the gap”
The performance under the non-farm sector was 126 per cent, under agriculture 81 per cent and service as well as business sector 85 per cent. He urged the banks to bridge the gap under the agriculture category during the second quarter.
Till August last, 844 SHGs received loans worth Rs. 5.06 crore without subsidy. So far, 7,937 Kisan Credit Cards have been issued against the annual target of 23,000. The Senior Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Erode, S.H. Keshava; Assistant General Manager, NABARD. P.R. Srinivasan; Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, M. Madhavi; and Lead District Manager K. Chandrasekaran, were among those who spoke at the meeting.
