Karunya clinches title

Coimbatore: Host Karunya University got the better of Loyola College (Chennai) 3-2, via tie-breaker, to clinch the football title in the 15th Karunya Evangeline South India-level tournament at the Karunya campus on Sunday. It was Karunya’s maiden title.

Karunya’s Yesudas came up with a good effort in the 10th minute of the first half. The Chennai team fought back to level the score through striker Siva midway through the second session.

In the tie-breaker, Karunya netted three to Loyola’s two.

Madras Christian College (Chennai) defeated Pachaiyappa’s College (Chennai) 3-2, via tie-breaker, to take the third spot.

Basketball: Sathyabama (Che) bt Malabar Christian (Ker) 51-23; MCC (Che) bt Bishop Heber (Try) 46-26; Kabaddi: Loyola (Che) bt Presidency College (Che) 31-22; Kongu Arts (Karur) bt Karunya (Cbe) 22-10; Volleyball: SRM (Che) bt Karunya 25-7, 25-14, 25-13; Sri Krishna (Cbe) bt PSG CAS (Cbe) 25-21, 25-16, 25-17.

Football (final): Karunya bt Loyola 3-2, via tie-breaker; Third place: MCC bt Pachaiyappa’s (Che) 3-2, via tie-breaker.

Women: Basketball: MOP Vaishnav (Che) bt Jyothi Nivas (B’lore) 40-22; Govt. Brennen (Thalassery) bt Ethiraj (Che) 52-30; bt MOP Vaishnav 63-41; Ethiraj bt Jyothi Nivas 42-32.

Volleyball: Ethiraj bt VSR Govt. College (AP) 25-16, 25-22; Govt. Brennen bt Ethiraj 25-21, 26-24.

Big win for Dolphin

Dolphin Cricket Club posted a comfortable 91-run win over Janaranjani Sports Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA third division league at the TNAU grounds on Sunday.
