Man bludgeoned to death Crime notes

BANGALORE: A history-sheeter was found bludgeoned to death near the BMTC bus stop at Dollar’s Colony 1st Main Road in the Sanjaynagar police limits on Sunday morning.

The police said that the body of Kumar (25), who faced cases of theft, was found around 7.15 a.m. The police said that Kumar’s killers had smashed his head. The Sanjaynagar police have registered a complaint and are investigating.

Drowns

A youth who came to immerse Ganesh idol on Saturday night drowned in Ulsoor Lake. According to the police, Prabhakara (26), a resident of Ashok Nagar in Austin Town, came to the lake with his friends to immerse an idol. It is learnt that he entered the water to immerse the idol and drowned in the lake. His friends pulled out his body and rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Books gutted

A fire, apparently caused by a short-circuit, at Book Paradise in Jayanagar 4th block on Saturday night destroyed books worth over Rs. 2 lakh. The police said that the fire service personnel reached the spot immediately and doused the fire, preventing further damages to the book store.

Electrocuted

A daily-wage labourer hailing from Tamil Nadu was electrocuted on Friday when an electric pole came crashing on him after a moving vehicle hit the pole at H.S.R. Layout under Madiwala police limits.

The police said the victim, Murthy from Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, was waiting on the roadside when the incident took place. A lorry, which was being reversed, hit the pole which came crashing down on Murthy, who was electrocuted.

The Madiwala police have registered a case.

Arrested

The City Market police have arrested a gang of alleged dacoits on Friday night and have foiled plans to rob traders who return home late in the night from the City Market area.

A press release said that the police arrested Venkatesh (24), Ezhumalai (25), Pavad (30), Younus (25) and Syed Irshad (21), who had reportedly planned to waylay traders and rob them of cash, mobile phones and gold.

The police said that the gang had identified certain traders who return home alone, and had chosen to waylay them on Friday night as they believed that traders took home heavy cash following festival season business.

The gang members were arrested around 9.55 p.m. at Ragipete Junction on Avenue Road just before they were to execute their plan.

The release said that the Venkatesh had several cases against him registered at City Market police station while Ezhumalai was a history-sheeter.

The City Market police have registered a case.

In another case, the City Market police arrested four persons for handing out a life threat to a fruit merchant who had failed to return a loan amount.

A press release said Velu (23), Shahnawaz (27), Manjunath (22) and Rajesh (21) were arrested on Friday for threatening Sriramar on S.R.S. Road. It is learnt that Ramar had obtained a hand loan of Rs. 1 lakh from Velu a month-and-a-half ago, and had failed to repay it. When Velu extended the loan, he had reportedly kept Rs. 20,000 towards interest and had given Ramar only Rs. 80,000.

The police said that Velu along with his three associates went to Ramar’s shop on Wednesday and allegedly demanded Rs. 2 lakh from him and threatened to kill him if he failed to return it.

The police said that the gang had wielded sharp weapons at Ramar to instil fear.

The release said that Velu was the brother of a slain rowdy Subra, and an accused in the murder of one Ashwathnarayan who he had allegedly killed in retaliation for his brother’s murder.

The police have seized a SUV used by the accused along with the sharp weapons and mobile phones. The four have been remanded in judicial custody.
