Gi-Seop gets past Vikram

CHENNAI: Gi-Seop Jin of Korea overcame India’s Vikram B. Reddy 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Wilson-TTT ITF junior tennis tournament at TTT courts, YMCA College of Physical Education, here on Thursday.

Pradeep, Varun to travel to the UK

Bowlers Pradeep Sangwan and Varun Aaron will travel to the English Cricket Board’s cricket performance centre in Loughborough, UK, with MRF Pace Foundation head coach T.A. Sekhar to undergo biomechanical three-dimensional study of their actions.

The study will provide data on the safety of the bowlers’ technique. The pair will also undergo musculo-skeletal screening, which will be used in future training. India ‘A’ bowlers V. Yo Mahesh and Pankaj Singh were also selected for the visit, part of the Pace Foundation’s reciprocal understanding with the English and Wales Cricket Academy, but will miss out because of the series against South Africa ‘A’.

TNCA umpires exam

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) will conduct an umpiring crash course examination for cricketers (aged above 21 and below 45 years) on Sept. 30. The candidates who have represented TNCA first division league and above (first class matches) are eligible for the course. The candidates who wish to appear for the course may register their names with TNCA office on or before September 17. TNCA will also conduct classes for the benefit of the candidates from Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. for 10 days at TNCA premises. It is mandatory for the candidates to attend the classes before appearing for the examination.

Chess tournament

The Tamil Nadu State Chess Association will conduct an open tournament on September 16 at the Hall of Chess, Nehru Stadium. Call 25366464. e-mail: tnchess64@yahoo.com
