KANCHEEPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Government has written to the Union Government to sanction new LPG gas agency licences exclusively to the State-owned Civil Supplies Corporation (CSC) to overcome problems faced by the beneficiaries of free LPG scheme in getting refills, according to Food Minister E.V.Velu.
The Minister made this observation at a press conference here on Saturday when his attention was brought to the reluctance on the part of existing private LPG agencies in rural areas in entertaining refill requests from villagers, who have been covered under free LPG scheme.
Admitting that the Government did received complaints in this regard from the beneficiaries, Mr.Velu said now people living in a radius of 10 km from the towns/villages where the private LPG agency functions were only covered. In order to overcome this problem, the State Government has written to the Ministry of Petroleum seeking its help to set up LPG agencies at 65 places in the State through the CSC. It had also been proposed to rope in financially sound cooperative societies to reduce the burden on the CSC, he added.
Earlier, Mr.Velu reviewed the functioning of wings of Civil Supplies Department in Kancheepuram, Vellore and Tiruvallur districts.
