Blue skies brighten drivers’ hopes

Abdus Salam

MAKASSAR (INDONESIA): Concerns over a slippery surface made worse by rain eased as blue skies showed up here on the eve of the sixth round of the Asian Pacific Rally Championship (APRC).

Cody Crocker, the championship leader, said that he wasn’t bothered by the sudden rise in temperature.

“The hot weather in Makassar is just the same as the hot weather in Malaysia.”

Meanwhile, third-placed Jussi Valimaki expressed confidence that his Mitsubishi would be suited to the straight stretches that would dominate the route on the opening day.

Improved weather conditions will come as especially good news for MRF Team drivers Valimaki and Katsuhiko Taguchi, both of whom failed to finish the previous race in Malaysia.

A good performance from either or both of them may not be enough to close the gap on Crocker, but it could do their own chances of finishing second a world of good.
