Mohan sets meet record

Mysore: M.C. Mohan Kumar of JSS College, Mysore hurled the shot put to a record distance of 15.75 metres on the concluding day of the 79th annual Mysore University inter-collegiate athletic meet at the University Oval ground here on Friday.

S. Shobha, who had won the sprint double (100m & 200m) and the triple jump gold medals, went on to win the 400m gold with a timing of 63.48s. She was also part of the Teresian College team which won the 4x100 and 4x400m relay events. Shobha won the individual title in the women’s section with 28 points.

In the men’s section, M. Vijayashankar of University Evening College emerged the individual champion with 25 points.

K.V. Kodandaramiah, Director, Collegiate Education gave away the prizes.

The results: (winners only): Men: Half marathon: Sanjeev Kumar (Bharathi College, Malavalli, 1:14:39s); Decathlon: C. Chandrakumar (PGSC, 4754 points); 400m: Manjunath (Maharaja’s College, 52 .41s); Long jump: M. Vijayashankar (UCE, 6.29m); Shot put: M.C. Mohan Kumar (JSS, 15.75m (NMR), Old record: 15.33m by H.S. Santhosh, 2004-05); 1500m: Manjunath (4:27.42s); 4x100m rela y: Basudeva Somani FGC (46.83s). Individual champion: M. Vijayashankar, University Evening College, 25 points. Team championship: Post Graduate Sports Council, 73 points.

Women: Discus: H.P. Pravitha (Govt. College, KR Nagar, 24.60m); 1500m: G.L. Sunitha (Marimallappa’s College, 5:15.68s); 400m: S. Shobha (Teresian College, 63.48s); Long jump: M.L. Dhakshayani (Govt. Arts College, Hassan, 4.18m); 4x100m relay: Teresian College for Women (58.08s). Individual champion: S. Shobha-Teresian College for Women, Mysore-28 points. Team championship : Teresian College for Women-129 points.
