Sri Krishna CAS is champion

Coimbatore: Host Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science emerged the champion with a clean league slate in the 26th Bharathiar University inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for men here on Friday.

The results: Semifinal league: PSG CAS bt Sree Jayendra Saraswathi 25-7, 25-8, 25-19; Sri Krishna bt NGM (Pollachi) 25-20, 30-28, 25-20; NGM bt Sree Jayendra Saraswathi 25-10, 25-9, 25-22; Sri Krishna bt PSG CAS 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.

Sri Kandan lifts title

Sri Kandan Arts and Science College (Veppadai, Tiruchengode) got the better of Muthayammal CAS (Rasipuram) 20-18 to lift the title in the Periyar University men’s handball tournament here on Friday.

The results: Final: Sri Kandan CAS (Veppadai) bt Muthayammal CAS (Rasipuram) 20-18. Semifinals: Muthayammal bt Thiruvalluvar GAC (Rasipuram) 12-6; Sri Kandan CAS bt Mahendra CAS (Kalipatti, Tiruchengode) 19-7.

Kongu EC advance

Host Kongu Engineering College (Perundurai) dashed the hopes of Vellalar College of Engineering (Erode) 3-1 for a place in the last four in the men’s badminton in the State-level inter-collegiate tournaments for the Kongu Trophy in Perundurai on Friday.

The results: Basketball: VOC Arts (Thoothukudi) bt Sri Krishna EC 38-36; Jeppiar EC (Chennai) bt Anbu Arts 72-26. Badminton: KSR Arts bt Dr. GRD College of Science (Coimbatore) 3-1; Kongu EC bt Vellalar CE 3-1.Kabaddi: Men: KSR C AS (Tiruchengode) bt Sethu IT (Kariapatti) 49-30; Erode Arts bt Anbu CAS (Komarapalayam) 47-19. Volleyball: VLB Janakiammal CE&T (Coimbatore) bt Vellalar CE&T (Erode) 25-21, 25-21; Dhanraj Baid Jain College (Chennai) bt Kandan Arts (Veppadai) 25-19, 18-25, 25-20.

Subin sparkles

Subin of Sam MHSS and M. Gayathri of St. Mary’s Convent MHSS (Annur) finished on top in the u-17 boys’ and girls’ 10km and 20km races respectively in the Anna district-level cycling race in Coimbatore on Friday.

The results: Boys: U-14: 10km: 1. N. Iven (GHSS, Alandurai), 2. P. Gokul (St. Mary’s MHSS, Annur), 3. S.P. Pavithran (St. Mary’s). U-17: 20km: 1. Subin (Sam MHSS), 2. Jayachandran (GKD MHSS), 3. R. Ramesh Kumar (GHSS, Sellappamapalaym). Girls: U-14: 5km: 1. G. Manisha (St. Mary’s), 2. V. Thamarai Selvi (Akila HSS), 3. K. Poornima (KG Girls). U-17: 10km: 1. M. Gayathri (St. Mary’s), 2. V. State-level volleyball

The inaugural State-level inter-collegiate floodlit volleyball tournament for the Sri Krishna Trophy will be held at the Sri Krishna CAS courts in Coimbatore on September 10 and 11. The top eight college teams from TN are expected to participate. K. Rajendran, Inspector General of Police (West Zone), will inaugurate the tournament on September 10 at 7 a.m.
