CHENNAI: Moser Baer India, an optical storage device company, has entered into an agreement with Duet Movies, which is owned and managed by actor Prakash Raj, for jointly producing three Tamil films. G. Dhananjayan, Chief Operating Officer (Entertainment Business), Moser Baer India, told a press conference here on Wednesday that the films were titled Vellitherai, Abhiyum Naanum, and Mayilu. The company’s entertainment division, launched in January, had acquired the copyrights for over 8,000 titles, of which 1,400 were Tamil movies, Mr. Dhananjayan said. He said 400 titles had been released so far. “We are offering original DVDs at Rs.34 and VCDs at Rs.28,” he said, adding that the company was doing its best to discourage video piracy. On venturing into Tamil film production, Mr. Dhananjayan said the company was a ‘serious player,’ which looked forward to developing quality content in Tamil and Hindi apart from other regional languages. Talks were on with Malayalam and Telugu movie directors, he said. The company was aiming at a turnover of Rs. 250 crore - 300 crore over the next 12 months, he said. Mr. Dhananjayan said he expected the Rs. 750 crore home entertainment market to grow to Rs. 1,000 crore in the near future. Moser Baer hoped to gain 30 per cent market share in this segment, he said.
