Osama to release video

London: Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will release a video addressing the Americans on the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States, an Islamist website has said. The announcement appeared on the website where Al-Qaeda’s media arm, as-Sahab, frequently posts messages. It was illustrated with a still photo from the video, showing Osama addressing the camera, his beard apparently dyed black. Rita Katz, director of the Site Institute, a U.S. based group that monitors terror messages, said Osama’s beard appeared to have been dyed, a popular practice among Arab leaders. If genuine, the tape will be the first time Osama has appeared in a video broadcast since October 2004 when a tape was obtained by al-Jazeera shortly before the U.S. presidential elections. In that address Osama said U.S. could avoid another 9/11 style attack if it stopped threatening Muslims. — PTI
