Sting operation: notice to Delhi government, police

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the Delhi government and the police directing them to file replies to press reports about an alleged fake sting operation conducted by a private television news channel on a woman teacher of a government school showing her pushing a girl student into flesh trade.

A Division Bench comprising Justices M.K. Sharma and Sanjiv Khanna directed them to file the replies by Monday when the matter will be heard further. The Bench issued the notice after Delhi High Court Bar Association president A.S. Chandhioke submitted to it newspaper clippings to the effect that the sting operation was a sham and concocted.

However, the Bench rejected Mr. Chandhioke’s submission that the Court should also summon the news channel’s staffer, saying “first let the Government and the city police file their responses.”
