NEW DELHI: In a bizarre new twist to the “sting operation” carried out by a Hindi television news channel on a woman teacher of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya here, the Crime Branch of the Delhi police has arrested the woman who posed as a student forced into prostitution by the teacher.
Rashmi Singh was arrested on charges of cheating, fabricating evidence and entering into a criminal conspiracy. Though senior police officers remained tight-lipped, it is learnt that Rashmi was arrested after the police obtained evidence to prove that she was in the know of the conspiracy to frame Uma Khurana, the mathematics teacher of the school on Asaf Ali Road.
The police suspect that Virender Arora, who was arrested on charges of supplying a girl to Uma, hatched the conspiracy. Investigations revealed that the accused roped in Rashmi, said to be the editor of a Noida-based small-time newspaper, and allegedly asked her to pose as a student forced into prostitution by the teacher.
Earlier, during interrogation, Rashmi had purportedly claimed that she was told a sting operation was being acted out.
According to the police, investigations into the role of the reporter are still on and they are seeking legal opinion.
The sting operation resulted in large-scale violence on Asaf Ali Road, leaving several persons injured and over two dozen vehicles damaged.
