UPA nominees for panel
Sandeep Dikshit
NEW DELHI: The United Progressive Alliance on Tuesday announced the names of its nominees for the panel to discuss with the Left the implications of the India-U.S. civil nuclear deal and its impact on the foreign policy.
From the Congress, the members will be Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Antony, P. Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Saifuddin Soz and Prithviraj Chavan. The expectation is that three other Union Ministers Sharad Pawar (Nationalist Congress Party), T.R. Baalu (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and Lalu Prasad (Rashtriya Janata Dal) will be included from among the allies. The Left parties, which support the government from outside, are likely to name nominees shortly. It is expected that they will include two each from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India and one each from the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Forward Bloc. The Left leaders are now leading protest rallies along the country’s eastern seaboard against military exercises being held in international waters close by.
