CPI demands justice for Dalits in Gohana

Special Correspondent

“Arrest murderers of Rakesh Kumar”

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India on Saturday demanded an end to the intimidation of Dalits in the Gohana area of Sonepat district in Haryana. This demand was made a day after CPI national secretary D. Raja visited Gohana, where a Dalit youth was killed last week resulting in clashes in several districts of the State.

The CPI’s other demands include arrest of those responsible for the murder of the Dalit youth, Rakesh Kumar alias Lara; adequate compensation to his family; medical treatment to those injured in the clashes; and transfer of the police personnel who allegedly fuelled the caste violence.

According to the CPI, the Congress government in the State had given a long rope to the police. It had failed to instil a sense of security among the Dalits and had done precious little to control atrocities against these disadvantaged sections.
