Pawar’s claim on suicides disputed

MUMBAI: The Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) has debunked the statement of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar that farmers’ suicides have come down in the State and that the media was exaggerating the issue.

The VJAS said in a statement on Saturday that five more farmers committed suicide even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Mr. Pawar were reviewing the state of agriculture in Maharashtra in Mumbai on Friday.
