HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will take two more months to finalise sanitation units and contracts for the 12 erstwhile municipalities. In the interregnum, it wants to assess the precise requirement and relocation of units from the erstwhile seven MCH circles.
Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) R. Rama Mohan Rao says that once the six sweeping machines are introduced next month, all the 40 night sweeping units will be moved out. The machines will be replacing the 18-member manual labour. The GHMC on Wednesday also finalised 380 sanitation contracts, including 220-day time for 180 works, including 27 reserved for the SCs/STs and other communities.
Applications
As many as 2,187 applications have been received for the year-long contract and the contractors chosen over a draw of lots. These works cost more than Rs.80 crore and single unit comprises 18 workers. The number of sanitation units has been increased by 60 for the forthcoming year, he said.
