TIRUNELVELI: Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta has said that the Kadayanallur Assembly constituency in Tirunelveli district and Tiruchendur constituency in Tuticorin district were lagging behind in the preparation of photo electoral rolls.

During an informal chat with reporters after holding a review meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Gupta said preparation of photo electoral rolls in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts was going on a bit slowly even as the Election Commission was working on the mission of achieving cent per cent error-free photo electoral rolls by September this year.

Goal set

While Kanyakumari has achieved 96 per cent, Tirunelveli district has completed 91.34 per cent of the exercise. Tuticorin district has so far covered 91.23 per cent.

“However, we’ve set a goal of completing the task within 10 to 15 days since we have to simultaneously finish the summary revision also during this period. As a whole, 94 per cent work has been completed in the State,” Mr. Gupta said.

If voters were absent at home during the visit of enumerators, they were asked in a notice to submit the necessary information and passport size photographs to the census takers, he noted.

Collectors of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari G. Prakash, R. Palaniyandi and Dev Raj Dev respectively, Tirunelveli Corporation Commissioner T. Mohan, revenue officials of three districts, executive heads of local bodies and others participated in the review meeting.
