Cool ambience: Tree saplings to be planted at VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai.
TIRUNELVELI: The VOC Stadium at Palayamkottai is all set to get green cover as planting of tree saplings commenced on the 41-year-old arena on Tuesday by the Minister for Environment, Sports and Youth Welfare, T.P.M. Maideen Khan. Protected by the metal tree guards, over 50 saplings of neem and Indian beech would be planted in the stadium to create more conducive ambience. While a full-fledged gym and squash court would be established at VOC stadium, installation of high-mast light at the cost of Rs.7.50 lakh taken up soon after the works committee of Tirunelveli Corporation clears the proposal. When the visitors appealed to the Minister to lay walkers’ path around the hockey ground, he asked the Assistant Commissioner, Palayamkottai Zone, Samuel Selvaraj, to prepare an estimate in this regard. The Collector, G. Prakash, the Mayor, A.L. Subramanian, and the Commissioner, T. Mohan, participated.
