Sourashtra College posts win

Madurai: Sourashtra College beat MSS Wakfboard College by 31 runs in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University championship cricket tournament here on Monday.

The scores: Sourashtra College 152 for seven in 30 overs bt MSSWB College 121 in 29.2 overs.

APA College, Palani 92 in 28.4 overs lost to ANJA College 93 for seven in 23.5 overs (Paramasivam 36).

AUCPE wins

Host Alagappa University College of Physical Education beat Dr. Zahir Hussain College, Ilayangudi 29-10, 21-29, 29-28 in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate ball badminton men’s tournament at Karaikudi on Monday.

Other results: Men: APSA College, Tiruppathur bt Sri Sevugan Annamalai College, Devakottai 29-12, 29-12.

Women: TBKA College, Kilakarai bt Umayal Ramanathan College 17-29, 29-10; AUCPE bt Idhaya College, Tharugani 29-5, 29-2.

Football tournament

The fifth Tamil Nadu Electricity Board State-level invitation football tournament will get under way at Dindigul on Wednesday.

St. Paul’s triumphs

St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Salem lifted the Athimuthu memorial trophy defeating Vincent D. Paul Matriculation HSS, Chennai 50-26 in the last match of the semifinal round-robin league in the state-level inter-school basketball tournament at Tuticorin on Sunday.

St. Paul’s emerged winner with an all-win record.

The results: St. Paul’s HSS, Salem 50 (Srinivasan 18, Joseph 16) bt Vincent D. Paul MHSS 26 (Suraj 12, Jabachandran 10); MSPSN, Dindigul 57 (Madhavan 15, Prabakaran 14) bt St. Xavier’s 34 (Maniselvam 10, Jeyaseelan 10).

IRRS takes honours

Idayam Rajendran Residential School (IRRS) lifted the Jayaraj Chelladurai Trophy defeating St. Britto HSS, Madurai 54-46 in the final of the 16th State-level inter-school basketball tournament at Nagamalai, near Madurai, on Sunday.

The result: IRRS 54 (Ramakrishnan 23, Madhavan 19) bt St. Britto HSS 46 (Maruthupandi 10, R. Aravind 18).

SBOA is champion

SBOA MHSS ‘A’ bt TVS MHSS ‘A’ 3-1 in the final of the District-level table tennis tournament for Arivanandar Trophy.

The results: TVS MHSS ‘A’ bt SBOA MHSS ‘A’ 3-1 (M. Mukund bt V. Shankar Narayanan 11-5, 11-7, 11-9; M. John lost to M. Feroze 6-11, 6-11, 6-11; M. Mukund & M. John bt M. Feroze & V. Shankar Narayanan 11- 7, 11-9, 11-5; M. Mukund bt M. Feroze 11-8, 11-9, 11-5.

Manikandan wins

C.R. Manikandan of VMJ MHSS won the boys’ under-19 singles title in the Madurai Educational District badminton tournament defeating M. Saravana Balaji of Setupati HSS 21-16, 21-17 in the final at Madurai on Monday.

Other results (finals): Boys: U-17: S. Pringle (Vikaasa School) bt S. Rakesh Rajan 21-8, 21-14. U-14: S. Thivakar Palaniappan (Velammal MHSS) bt S. Gowthaman (MNUJ HSS) 11-21, 21-12, 21-15.

Girls: U-14: V. Swathi Lakshmi (St. Joseph’s MHSS) bt V.S. Priya Darshini (St. Joseph’s HSS) 21-10, 21-12.
