KOCHI: Iran defeated China 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 29-31, 15-7 in a 130-minute thriller and won its maiden title in the World youth volleyball championship, which concluded in Tijuana, Mexico, on Monday. France won the bronze defeating Argentina 3-1, while India finished eighth after losing to Brazil 17-25, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25. Mandeep top-scorer Indian captain Mandeep Singh, with 156 points, won the top-scorer award in the championship. All-rounder Mandeep, from Punjab, also came eighth in the best attackers list which was topped by China’s Bin Huang. Indian libero Vinod Negi (HSIDC, Haryana) was sixth in the best diggers list and eighth in the best receivers table. Final placings (top 10): 1. Iran, 2. China, 3. France, 4. Argentina, 5. Poland, 6. Belgium, 7. Brazil, 8. India, 9. Russia, 10. Germany.
