NEW DELHI: Little-known Railway girl Mansi Bhagwat made a mockery of the bottom half of the ladies draw by adding three seeds, including National champion Mouma Das, to the casualty list on the penultimate day of the all-India inter-institutional table tennis championship here on Monday. On a day when seeds tumbled with alarming regularity at the Siri Fort Sports Complex hall, sanity returned to the proceedings when the top four seeds A. Sharath Kamal, Subhajit Saha, Pathik Mehta and Anirban Nandi tamed seed-killers and took their allotted places in the semifinals. But in the ladies section, where Poulomi Ghatak and Mantu Ghosh meet in the semifinals for the second successive year, Mansi remained untamed this day. Mansi has surely come a long way since making a first-round exit to Neha Agarwal in the last edition in Bangalore. This time, this unseeded girl set up a clash with Neha in Tuesday’s semifinal by accounting for three Petroluem rivals — the 15th seed T. Pradeepa 4-1 in the first round, second seed Mouma Das 4-2 and 10th seed Vishakha Vijay 4-1 — and made it the most fruitful day of her career. Neha, on her part, packed off former champion Anindita Chakraborty, who had upstaged sixth seeded Mamta Prabhu in the first round. The Delhi girl proceeded to stun third seed and National Games champion K. Shamini in the quarterfinals.
