Billiards & Snooker
Avinash Nair
VASCO (Goa): The penultimate day of the league stage in the Vascon-Manisha IBSF World under-21 snooker tournament here on Monday witnessed emotions in different forms surfacing. And surprises did not cease either. China’s Li Hang for the second successive day lost to a much lesser player, this time to John Loh of Malaysia. The 4-1 win for Loh also enabled the Malaysian to enter the round of 32 as the fourth qualifier from Group ‘D’ at the expense of Shahbaaz Adil Khan. The Indian with a frame score of 14-14 lost out to the Malaysian, who had a marginally superior frame score of 16-14. Among other Indian’s Rishabh Pandya crashed to back to back defeats in Group ‘F’, while Balaji Reddy made an ignominious exit from the championship suffering his fifth defeat in six matches. However there was cheer for India’s Younsi Kuchey who cashed in on his fourth win in Group ‘C’ to make it to the knock-out phase round of 32. Pushpender posts win
Pushpender Singh too strengthened his chances, beating Netherlands Sohrabi Arya 4-1. Michael Georgiou and Robbie Williams both of England too had a forgettable day. While Michael fell to the guiles of gutsy Anda Zhang of China 2-4 Robbie was stunned by El Shrbene Yasser of Egypt.
