ISLAMABAD: The divisions in the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Q) over the proposed re-election of President Musharraf from the present electoral college, while he continues to remain army chief came out in the open on Monday with the resignation of a minister. Muhammed Ishaq Khakwani, minister of state for Information Technology resigned after making a public statement that President Musharraf should not seek re-election in uniform. Mr. Khakwani submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, possibly pre-empting disciplinary action against him. The ruling party was reportedly planning to take action against those who were voicing opposition against President Musharraf’s reported plan to seek re-election while retaining his other office of army chief.
