BHC, St. Joseph’s qualify

TIRUCHI: Bishop Heber College (BHC) and St. Joseph’s College have qualified for the Bharathidasan University inter-zonal cricket tournament from Tiruchi zone here on Monday.

The scores:

Semifinals: Urumu Dhanalakshmi 69 in 22.5 overs (Narendran four for 11) lost to Bishop Heber 71 for one in 11.5 overs.

Kongu Arts 120 for five in 25 overs (Aruljothi 47, Yuvaraj 42) lost to St. Joseph’s 122 for five in 18.3 overs (Joseph 50 not out, Manivannan 30).

Quarterfinals: Srimath Andavan 55 in 21 overs (Ganesh four for nine (including a hat-trick)) lost to Bishop Heber 59 for no loss in 9.2 overs

GAC (Tiruchi) 57 in 16 overs (Stephen five for 14) lost to St. Joseph’s 59 for no loss in 8.3 overs (Kumaresan 37).

Urumu Dhanalakshmi 116 for nine in 25 overs (Sivaraj 43, Sathyamurthy five for 15) bt GAC (Musiri) 79 for nine in 25 overs (Sakthivel three for 13).

Kongu Arts 133 for three in 25 overs (Aruljothi 45 not out, Yuvaraj 42 not out) bt GAC (Karur) 116 in 24.1 overs (Tamil 42, Saravanan 32, Yuvaraj five for 12).
Jayakumar shines

M.C. Saran Jayakumar’s all-round performance (78 not out and three for 45) was the highlight of Ramanathapuram’s five-wicket win over Madurai in a league encounter of the TNCA under-17 inter-district cricket tournament in Thanjavur on Monday.

The scores:

At Thanjavur (‘G’ zone): Thanjavur 158 for nine in 44 overs (M. Vignesh Khanna 42) lost to Perambalur 159 for seven in 35.4 overs.

Madurai 220 in 48.3 overs (N. Thirumurugan 89, M.C. Saran Jayakumar three for 45, I. Wahith four for 39) lost to Ramanathapuram 221 for five in 35.4 overs (M.C. Saran Jayakumar 78 not out, Mohammed Yasir 63).

At Neyveli (‘D’ zone): Villupuram 76 in 26.4 overs (Naresh Babu four for 14) lost to Vellore 78 for two in 12.2 overs (Jagath 34 not out).

Cuddalore 197 in 41.2 overs (Rajesh 41, Kugan 40, K. Arun three for 30) bt Pudukottai 79 in 27 overs (Kovendhan three for 16, T. Sivaprakash three for eight).
SIT lifts trophy

Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti lifted the Redeemers Trophy defeating Madras Christian College, Chennai 4-2 via tie-breaker in the final of the state-level inter-collegiate football tournament at Nazareth on Sunday. At the end of regulation time, the teams were locked goalless.

In the tie-breaker Sivakumar, Nazirudeen, Arvind and Prabakaran scored for SIT. Michael and Martin scored for MCC.

Earlier in the semifinals, MCC beat VOC College, Tuticorin 3-0 and SIT prevailed over St. Jude’s College, Thuthur 5-4 via tie-breaker, after the teams were locked goalless at full time.
