M.C. Saran Jayakumar’s all-round performance (78 not out and three for 45) was the highlight of Ramanathapuram’s five-wicket win over Madurai in a league encounter of the TNCA under-17 inter-district cricket tournament in Thanjavur on Monday. The scores: At Thanjavur (‘G’ zone): Thanjavur 158 for nine in 44 overs (M. Vignesh Khanna 42) lost to Perambalur 159 for seven in 35.4 overs. Madurai 220 in 48.3 overs (N. Thirumurugan 89, M.C. Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti lifted the Redeemers Trophy defeating Madras Christian College, Chennai 4-2 via tie-breaker in the final of the state-level inter-collegiate football tournament at Nazareth on Sunday. At the end of regulation time, the teams were locked goalless. In the tie-breaker Sivakumar, Nazirudeen, Arvind and Prabakaran scored for SIT. Michael and Martin scored for MCC. Earlier in the semifinals, MCC beat VOC College, Tuticorin 3-0 and SIT prevailed over St. Jude’s College, Thuthur 5-4 via tie-breaker, after the teams were locked goalless at full time.
