UP-TO-DATE SOFTWARE: Sachin Duggal (left), Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nivio, and Alok Ohrie, Managing Director of AMD India, addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.
NEW DELHI: Nivio, a start-up provider of virtualisation solutions enabling users to access their personal Windows desktops from any PC with a broadband connection, on Monday said it had tied up with global processing solutions provider AMD. The partnership will support Nivio’s vision of virtual desktop access for a worldwide audience and AMD’s drive to extend Internet access to emerging markets. AMD will invest in the Nivio’s research and development programme. The Nivio service has been in development for the past 18 months and is now in the private beta testing mode, where it has gained a positive response from the technology community. The technology enables a user to download most up-to-date software for use anywhere at anytime without having to upgrade his/her PC and sync with his/her own desktop. The service will soon be launched in the U.K. and India. Talking to reporters, AMD India Vice-President and Managing Director Alok Ohrie said, “Nivio’s commitment to launch in India is definitely a draw for us and in return for our investment in R&D we also get to support a service that fits perfectly into our continued aim of extending the breadth of access to the Internet.” According to Nivio’s CEO Sachin Duggal, the partnership with AMD will bring technology expertise to enable them to continue towards their aim of launching the service over the coming months.
