“Tea factories closed due to poor supply of raw leaves”
Special Correspondent
UDHAGAMANDALAM: Without the cooperation of small growers, industrial cooperative tea factories cannot be re-opened, Khadi Board Minister K. Ramachandran said on Friday.
Interacting with representatives of small growers from Kil Kotagiri and Ebbanad at Coonoor, he said the main reason for the closure of the factories was the poor flow of raw leaves.
Providing statistics pertaining to the quantity of leaves supplied by the members of two factories over the years, he said that since it became impossible to run them they had been closed.
Pointing out that at the Kil Kotagiri factory liquidation proceedings had been initiated, he said that if all the members assured the Indcoserve (apex body of the INDCO factories) that the required quantity of leaves would be generated, the government would be requested to consider reviving them.
