‘Sneha’ seeks volunteers

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Sneha, a voluntary organisation involved in counselling the depressed, will organise a marathon on September 9 in connection with the World Suicide Prevention Day.

The marathon will cover a distance of 6 km in Besant Nagar. The participants will be divided into eight categories according to their age group. About 1,000 people are expected to participate and the winners will get prizes.

Sneha director Shanti said the organisation was in need of more volunteers. It operates helplines - 2464 0050/0060 - and also provides emotional support through emails.

To become a volunteer, the candidate should be aged above 20 and able to spend about four hours in a stretch. It is also important for the volunteers to be articulate in English and Tamil.

After their selection, they would be provided training. Those interested can contact Sneha on 11, Park View Road, R.A.Puram between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. or contact 2464 0050. E-mail to help@snehaindia.org.
