Road works to be completed in 21 days

CHENNAI: Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy has directed officials to complete work on 11 roads in the Guindy industrial estate complex in 21 days.

At a meeting on Tuesday, he wanted silt to be removed from drains in the estate.

The meeting decided that the width of 17 roads be increased from 3.5 metres to 7 metres, and in the case of 17 other roads, from 3.5 metres to 5.5 metres.

An additional grant of Rs. 12.7 crore would be sought to carry out the upgrade of infrastructure, says a release. The estate, established in 1958, has 700 units, with 37 exporting units having an annual turnover of Rs. 77 crore.

P. Selvam, Small Industries Secretary; G. Santhanam, Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Corporation; and Shanmuga Velayutham, president of the Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, were present.
