2 die of asphyxiation

CHENNAI: Two men died after they entered a drain to clean it in Ambattur industrial estate on Wednesday. According to police sources, Babu (40) of Nerkundram and Raja (19) of Maduravoyal were engaged to clear a drain in Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Association (AIEMA) complex premises. Babu entered the drain but when he did not emerge for quite some time, Raja entered the drain. Both are believed to have died of asphyxiation. Their bodies were sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

Succumbs to injuries

V. Sekar (46) of Old Jail Road in Royapuram, who was admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital in Mint earlier this month, died of injuries sustained in an assault. According to police the man had been assaulted by an inebriated neighbour on August 10 and was in the intensive care unit of the hospital where he died on Wednesday morning. The accused had already been remanded earlier, police said.
