A lively debate on the spirit of Olympics

CHENNAI: Passions were stirred at the Music Academy on Wednesday during the eighth Inter-Institutional L.N. Birla National Debate.

The Chennai Regional Competition was on the topic of ‘The spirit of the Olympics today is commerce not sport.’ All those involved presented persuasive arguments.

Four schools and seven colleges including PS Senior Secondary School, PSBB (Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan) and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan from Coimbatore competed. Students from MOP Vaishnav, Ethiraj, Stella Maris, Loyola, School of Excellence in Law and PSC College (Coimbatore) participated in the college category.

Winners

The winners were PS Senior Secondary School and Loyola College (Morning). They will participate in the national finals to be held in November in Kolkata.

The L.N Birla National Debate was started in 1996 and was confined to the city of Kolkata until recently when it moved to other major cities in the country.
