Jindal lauds National Sports Policy

NEW DELHI: Naveen Jindal, Member of Parliament and industrialist, has lauded the draft National Sports Policy.

In a statement on Wednesday, Jindal, who is also a well-known shooter, said that the policy aimed to transform India into a “leading edge sporting nation by youth development, contributing to national development.”

Jindal said that the policy aimed to adopt a holistic approach covering most of the essential ingredients for improving sports, such as mass participation, broad-basing, development of excellence and creation of infrastructure from panchayat to National level.

He said that it also hoped to create synergy among all the stakeholders including the Central Government, State governments, the Indian Olympic Association and the National sports federations.

Congratulating the Union Sports Minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar, for his vision, Jindal hoped that all concerned would give their suggestions to improve the draft policy and it would soon be approved by the Union Cabinet and Parliament and implemented so that it started showing its impact from the 2010 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games culminating in India winning at least 10 medals in the 2012 London Olympics. — Special Correspondent
